Language Exchange

* Please note: Language Exchange has been postponed until further notice. We will update when it will be next on.

Languages Sheffield runs a regular Language Exchange evening throughout the academic year held at Sheffield Hallam University Hubs building. The event is designed for people over the age of 18 who wish to share, learn and practice a language with others.

What are Language Exchanges?

They are an opportunity for anyone aged over 18 to use a language you are learning, share a language that you speak with others and meet people with different cultures and languages. When you arrive at a language exchange evening you will be asked about which language(s) you already speak and which you are learning. You will wear a label showing your name and your languages (spoken and learning). Then you will be guided to a table marked with the name of the language you want. On the table you will normally find a volunteer or volunteers who will facilitate the discussion. You can change table when you want.

We aim to provide as wide a variety of languages as possible. English, French, Chinese, Spanish and German are our most popular Languages that will be available. Please contact us for further details of any other languages you may be able to provide or want to learn.

When you arrive at a Language Exchange you can find the table of the language you wish to speak, which will be hosted by a facilitator. You may switch tables if you wish to practice other languages. Refreshments available.

The events will take place at Hallam Union HUBS building, Paternoster Row, Sheffield, S1 2QQ

Language Exchanges are run by a team of volunteers from Hallam Union and the community. If you are interested in volunteering at Language Exchange please contact us on the details shown below.
