Quality Framework for Complementary Schools

The Quality Framework is administered by the National Resource Centre for Supplementary Education (NRC) which is part of the learning charity National Resource Centre for Supplementary Education (NRCSE). The Quality Framework is a voluntary quality recognition scheme, which is independent, peer assessed and self-regulated. It aims to recognise, celebrate, record and improve the achievements of complementary schools. Languages Sheffield supports and encourages all Sheffield complementary schools to work towards a Quality Framework award – it is a mark of good practice and improves quality in the sector. Complementary schools can gain awards at four levels – Bronze, Silver, Gold and Special Distinction. These cover essential management and safeguarding procedures, teaching and learning, governance and community engagement. Schools working towards a Quality Framework award receive the help of a trained mentor. Sheffield Quality Framework mentors include Caroline Norman (Languages Sheffield) and Ranjit Chakravorty (Sheffield City Council – EMTAS). In Sheffield 7 schools have completed the Bronze Quality Framework level and 4 of these have moved on to achieve the Silver award.
